JORABAT, Oct 28 - Irked by the alleged police inaction after an FIR registered over an attack on woman at Digaru, a large number of residents of Dimoria gheraoed the Sonapur Police Station this afternoon demanding quick action in the case.

According to the protesters, the victim, Rita Murari, a resident of Digaru under the Sonapur PS, was brutally hit by a mother-son duo Anjali Rongpi and Mickel Rongpi of the same village on October 24. It may be mentioned that the victim, who was pregnant, had to be admitted to the GMCH in a critical condition.

Following the incident, an FIR was filed at the police station by her relatives, but subsequent failure of the police to take action against the alleged attackers forced the Dimoria branch of the Assam Tea Tribes Students Association, along with a large number of locals, to stage a protest and gherao the police station this afternoon.

The student body submitted a memorandum demanding strict action against the mother-son duo.
