Sonapur Eleven Star emerge champs

JAGIROAD, Jan 16 - Sonapur Eleven Star, Kamrup (M) emerged champions in the Bikash Paharia and Nanu Gour Memorial Football Tournament.

In the exciting final played today at the Gopal Krishna Tea Estate ground near here, Sonapur Eleven Star defeated Bhurbandha Football Club, Morigaon 4-3 via tie-breaker. During the gruelling regulation 90 minutes no team could break the deadlock despite some all-out efforts from either sides.

In the tie-breaker, Shenphand Pyngrope, Ananda Phangshoo, Dipankar Ingti and Karna Tumung scored for Sonapur while Suman Pator, Bishal Deuri and Gobinda Bordoloi netted for Bhurbandha Football Club.

Ananda Phangshoo of the winning team was adjudged the best player of the final while Pabitra Boro of the same team was selected for the best goalkeeper award of the tournament.

Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, former Forest Minister Rakibul Hussain, former Jagiroad MLA Bibekananda Doloi and singer Bhrigu Kashyap were the guests in the closing function and they gave away the trophies.

The tournament was organised by Gopal Krishna Regional Youth Sangha in which eight teams took part.
