AIZAWL, Dec 25 - Solomon�s Temple, the biggest Church in Mizoram, located at Chawlhmun, on the western periphery of Aizawl, constructed by the Holy Church (Kohhran Thianghlim) was dedicated to God today.
Before unveiling the plaque, Dr LB Sailo, leader of the church, said that he dedicated this Temple for the eternal dwelling of God.
The foundation stone of the Church was laid on December 23, 1996. The architectural design was made by Dr Sailo in 1991. The faces of the Temple exactly face south, north, east and west. There are 12 doors, four pillars, four towers and there are no columns in the Temple.
Constructed with Busleara marble on the outer wall, the flooring is done with red sandstone. Each side of the Temple is 180 ft in length with the porch, and the inner hall 120 ft on all four sides. The seating capacity of the main hall is 3,000 people and a big compound with lush green vegetation encircles the building. The Temple bagged the Govt of Mizoram�s �Green Mizoram Outstanding Performance� in the years 1999
and 2000.
The cost of construction of the temple is Rs 18 crore, including Rs 10 crore on materials, Rs 3.50 crore for skilled labour, and Rs 4.50 crore in community labour. The church members were involved in the construction through community/voluntary labour of 3,00,000 hours.
