Solid waste management scheme launched

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 31 With the aim of maintaining cleanliness in railway residential colonies and offices and to make them green and healthy, the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Scheme has been launched by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

The scheme was launched by NFR General Manager RS Virdi earlier this week at Maligaon, said an official statement.

NFR has entrusted an agency to collect these materials from every household at a specified time on a daily basis.

The scheme will ensure collection and proper disposal of household as well as office waste in an environmentally safe, secure and scientific way for ensuring clean colonies and a greener environment, it added.

Under this scheme, all households within the railway residential areas will be provided with two containers green and red.

The residents would be requested to segregate household waste in two categories and put them in the two containers.
