KARIMGANJ, Dec 5 � In association with Ega Energy Ltd of Britan, BMC Ltd of Silchar is going to set up a solar power project in Hilara under Cachar district. Swami Mrinmayanandaji of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Silchar centre laid foundation stone of the project in Hilara Colony, Kalain recently.
Sunil Ch Ghosh, CMD of BMC Ltd in course of his speech disclosed that initially they will be producing 25 MW of energy from this plant. The total project cost is Rs 535 crore. 20 per cent project cost will be borne by the BMC Ltd and balance project cost will be come from the Central government and Power Finanance Corporation. BMC Ltd has already acquired 500 bighas of land in Hilara Colony and Kurkuri part-4.
Pradip Dutta Roy, legal advisor of the organisation said BMC Ltd is very much keen to solve the power problem of the Barak Valley. Similar solar power plants would come up in Karimganj and Hailakandi districts also. Bimal Kanti Das, PRO informed that the project would be implemented within one year and it will create employment opportunities to 2000 unemployed youths directly or indirectly. Swami Mrinmayanandaji appreciated the activities of the BMC Ltd and expressd hope that the organisation will take a leading role in changing the economic scenario of the valley.
Bad roads: Citizens of Wards No 7, 8 and 9 of the Karimganj Municipal Board, in a meeting, expressed concern over the diplorable road conditions and condemned the PWD (Roads) division for its alleged failure in undertaking the road renovation works.
Dipankar Ghosh, president of NGO �Shuruwat� said that the Nilmani Road and Brojendra Road in Wards No 7, 8 and 9 are in bad shape since the last four years. He also raised objections against the Karimganj Municipal Board for its unplanned drainage system. Following unplanned sanitation system, a major portion of the Nilmani Road and Brojendra Road were under drain water, alleged Ghosh. He further alleged that almost all the roads in the 27 wards under the Karimganj Municipal Board are in a pathetic condition. The Nilmani road is an important near the Kendriya Vidyalaya, the office of the Inspector of Schools. Nilmani HS School and Nilmani LP School are situated in the locality. The residents of these three wards have requested Excise Minister Gautam Roy and Parliamentary secretary Sideque Ahmed to take action for renovation of the roads. They urged the State Government to solve their problems as early as possible.
