DIBRUGARH, June 5 - The newly-constructed Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) Dyke has turned into a tourist spot. People from various walks of life are seen visiting the embankment for unwinding themselves during both day and night times. Several others, on the other hand, are using the dyke to maintain their physical fitness. These people are seen engaged in a range of activities starting from walking, jogging, cycling and yoga.
The dyke was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on January 24, 2017 in the presence of a large gathering of locals. However, it needs to be mentioned here that several solar lights installed over the dyke have stopped working for the past several months. From the safety and security point of view these solar lights are essential over the dyke, given the crowd it has been attracting. Besides, these solar lights also help in keeping an eye on the possible flood, erosion or any sort of sabotage by anti-social elements.
As the solar lights could be within the guarantee or warranty period, there appears to be no caretaker to rectify the problems. If these solar lights are not rectified within its guarantee or warranty period, there are chances that substantial amount of money would be required to put the solar lights in workable conditions yet again. Dehing Welfare Society, a local NGO here has already drawn the attention of the Chief Minister, district administration and the department concerned in this regard through written complaints but to no avail so far.
