Soil health cards issued to farmers

DIBRUGARH, Dec 8 - The World Soil Day was marked at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Romai-Kordoibam near here on Saturday with a day-long awareness programme on the importance of soil fertility. Some 250 farmers who attended the programme were also given away soil health cards during the event.

Dr Aradhana Barooah, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science), KVK welcomed the guests and the participants while the inaugural speech was delivered by Dr H K Bhattacharyya, the Programme Coordinator.

Dr Bhattacharyya emphasized on the importance of soil testing. He asked the participants to carry out publicity for availing soil testing facility offered by the Kendra. Dr Aradhana Barooah too explained about the importance of soil, soil testing, various important of aspects of soil health and soil fertility through a presentation.

Lipy Deori, District Development Manager, NABARD, stressed upon the use of biofertilizer in crop cultivation for a sustainable agriculture production. She appreciated KVK for producing bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides in their laboratory and making the bio-inputs available to the farmers of Dibrugarh and its adjoining districts.

SK Deb, Divisional Officer, Department of Soil Conservation, Dibrugarh, also addressed the gathering. The programme was chaired by RK Bora, District Agricultural Officer, Dibrugarh. In his concluding remarks Bora informed about the present strategy of issuing soil health cards in every district.
