Social Welfare Office opened in Majuli

JORHAT, Oct 8 - Majuli Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi, who assumed charge on October 3, inaugurated the office of the District Social Welfare Officer at Garamur, the headquarters of the Brahmaputra island district, on Friday.

A district administration official stated that the new office has been started from a rented house. The source said that Majuli District Social Welfare Officer Nirada Deuri along with other staff of the office were present on the ocassion.

The official said that Kairi asked the employees to work sincerely to enable proper implementation of the schemes and projects so that benefits reach those entitled.

On Saturday, the Deputy Commissioner visited Afalamukh Ghat from where to and fro boat service to Nimatighat in Jorhat operates and took stock of the quality of service.

The official said that Kairi held talks with employees of the Inland Water Transport Department, which runs the boat service between mainland Jorhat and Majuli. He also interacted with a section of the passengers present at the ghat to know about problems faced by them.

In the meantime, the new Deputy Commissioner is expected to visit the busy Kamalabari Ghat of the river island very soon.
