GUWAHATI, March 7 Popularity of social networking sites throughout the world has encouraged a young Assamese entrepreneur to launch a new networking site- entirely in Assamese language, equipped with the most advanced and popular application methods, which is easy to operate like other such popular sites.
Prasangik.com, as the site has been named, is prepared on the model of facebook - a very popular networking site, by Rajdeep Sarma of Assam and the site is already operational in the exhibition mode. The website is also accessible through mobile phones supporting the latest versions of Android application.
The website is first of its kind in India, as claimed by the developers of the same.
Addressing the media here, Sarma said that the Prasangik is more than just a social networking site. After working in the field of web development for a considerable period of time, I have developed this site which can be operated by any person, who has the basic knowledge of typing in the computer key board and Assamese phonetics, he said.
Earlier, typing in Assamese language required downloading the software like Ramdhenu, Shreelipi etc., but thanks to the Unicode system, using the digital version of Assamese language has become much easier. In our website, no additional software is required and it also has a typing guide in every page, to help those who find any kind of letter, specially the Yuktakshar, he added.
Developing the sites entailed a lot of work on designing the font, making it compatible on all the servers etc. Those registering with this site would also be able to upload photos and videos, one to one chatting and preliminary photo editing.
We wanted to make it more than a website thus a Wikipedia has also been incorporated where people can contribute their write ups in various segments. Though in a nascent stage, it is an ambitious project, where we want to create a huge archive of Assamese literature making the search easier for the future, Sarma mentioned.
The idea behind developing a website is popularizing wide use of Assamese language and making it convenient for Assamese people to express their thoughts in their mother tongue, he said.
