Social distancing norms thrown to the wind at fish outlet

GUWAHATI, April 11 - After the Kamrup (Metro) district administration made arrangements to sell fish at the Rupnagar outlet of Fishfed, hundreds of people thronged the outlet to buy fish today, allegedly defying the social distancing norm.

The administration made the arrangements through the outlet to sell local fish to the residents of the area from Friday. Moreover, door-to-door selling of fish has also been allowed by the administration in different parts of the city.

A person who visited the outlet today morning said, �There was such a situation at the outlet that I have changed my decision to buy fish. There was a huge gathering at the outlet. The administration and the officials of the outlet should monitor the situation effectively.�

Another customer said it is very crucial to follow social distancing norm to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak. Altogether, 2,620 people have visited the outlet in two days.

�There was no violation of any norms fixed by the administration during the selling of fish at the outlet. Social distancing norm was maintained accurately inside the outlet. At least 1,520 people visited the outlet today to buy fish. Altogether 1,870 kg of local fish was sold. The fish are being brought here from places like Hajo, Mayong, Barpeta and other places of the state,� an official of Fishfed said.
