Smuggled timber seized

TURA, Sept 26 - A naka check set up by police this morning led to the apprehension of a vehicle carrying illegal timber suspected to be from the Rongrenggre forest reserve and en route to Assam near Samanda in East Garo Hills.

According to police, one vehicle was noticed coming from Samanda side.

�However on seeing the police naka party on the road, the vehicle stopped at a distance of about 300 metres from the checking point. When the naka team rushed towards the vehicle the occupants of the vehicle fled away to the jungle under the cover of darkness� said SP of EGH, Ringrang TG Momin.

Later, police team recovered the timber. Accordingly a TATA vehicle bearing registration number AS-18C-1578, loaded with 15 pieces of logs, was detained.
