GUWAHATI, July 1 - A truck laden with smuggled timber was seized in the wee hours today by a team of the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) from the Jorabat area.
Acting on a tip-off, the CID team intercepted the vehicle that was loaded with �Saal� timber.
The owner of the consignment, Hemanta Deka, was later arrested by the CID. The truck was coming from Meghalaya.
Police is also looking out for Babul Das, the owner of the truck bearing registration number NL OI L 6859, who is also believed to be involved in the smuggling.
Sources in the CID said that the father is an employee of the Forest department and he could soon be questioned in this connection.
�Meanwhile, we have asked the Forest department to assess the source and the exact value of the seized timber.�
The arrested will be produced before the Court tomorrow.
