SHILLONG, March 12 - A goal in either half by prolific scorer Wanlamsuk Nongkhlaw saw Smit SC take away the coveted trophy of the Sentinels Football Tournament, organised by the Assam Rifles with support of the Meghalaya Football Association. In the final Smit SC defeated Lawsohtun SC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today.
The knockout tournament, which began on March 3, concluded today with the two best teams out of the 16 who entered playing out an energetic 90 minutes on the pitch, but Smit proved too strong and took the game 2-0.
Nongkhlaw collected the Golden Boot award for scoring 11 goals in the tournament, stated a release.
