SMCH set to resume general treatment services

SILCHAR, April 23 - Following the announcement made by State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to reopen the medical colleges and district hospitals for general public, authorities of the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, which has been functioning as COVID-19 hospital, is all set to provide treatment to other patients from April 24.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of SMCH informed this on Thursday saying that on Friday, OPDs of all the four departments � Eye, ENT, Dermatology and Psychiatry shall be shifted back to SMCH from Silchar Civil Hospital.

�We have only one COVID-19 patient, who is Assam�s first undergoing treatment at a separate ward and the zone has been kept absolutely safe and secured from thoroughfare. As per Government instructions, we are hopeful to resume treatment of general patients from Friday and the OPDs of the four departments shall be brought back from Civil Hospital as well,� Dr Gupta said.

Asked whether the Rapid Test kits have arrived at the hospital, Dr Gupta replied that they have made all arrangements for treating patients once they receive the Rapid Test kits. Treatment of general patients shall not be hampered, he maintained.
