SMCH crosses 1 lakh mark in Covid testing

SILCHAR, Sept 10 - The microbiology laboratory at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) has crossed testing of 1 lakh swab samples for determining the COVID-19 positive status.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of SMCH informed the media on Thursday that while 95,926 samples have undergone the Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) tests so far with 4,802 positive cases ascertained, the tally of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) has touched 6,881 yielding 771 COVID-19 positive cases.

�With both RTPCR and RAT figures, we have crossed 1 lakh tests of swab samples. While there are 202 active cases, 1,509 persons have been discharged after they recovered from the disease. But, we lost 46 persons due to the disease so far at the hospital,� Dr Gupta maintained.

On the other hand, Valley Hospital and Research Centre located at Meherpur has opened its COVID-19 care centre with 20-bed facility for the patients. Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy along with Rajdip Goala, MLA Lakhipur ceremonially opened the centre. The services for treatment COVID-19 patients including their food are chargeable, the authorities informed. �It is a good move to see another private hospital in the region opening up for COVID-19 treatment which will provide options for patients to come for treatment,� the hospital authorities maintained.
