Small tea growers� body vents grievances

JORHAT, Dec 3 � Just after the commencement of the Assam Tea Tourism Festival 2010 in Jorhat, the All Assam Small Tea Growers� Association today expressed their grivences in front of the media persons at Jorhat Press Club here today.

Addressing the media freternity, Rajen Bora, president, Jorhat unit of All Assam Small Tea Growers� Association said that there are 85,000 small tea growers in the state. Most of them had established their gardens in government land under the Ceiling Act.

Though they were promised land possession certificate, the Chief Minister is yet to give the LPCs to most of them. No one of the 10,000 small tea growers in Jorhat district has received LPC till today. So the small tea growers have failed to obtain loans and assistance from the government, Tea Board and other organisations.

He further alleged that they were not well informed about the utility of the fund they offered to the DC�s Development fund contributing 3 paisa per kg of green tea leaves they produced. He also cited the fact that the monthly session of the district monitoring committee is not held every month.

Durlabh Bora, secy, Someswar Bora, VP and Lechai Borpatra Gohain, VP of the district unit of the association were present at the press meet.
