MANGALDAI, June 3 Disruption of the BSNLs broadband internet service for several hours at a stretch has become a regular affair in Darrang district. At a time when the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre is banking on online service with respect to almost all new public schemes, the public telecom service provider has failed miserably to provide satisfactory service to its customers in the district.
Broadband subscribers, including students, media persons, travellers, professionals in the financial sectors, law enforcers and security personnel, have suffered due to the poor connectivity. There were long queues of students and guardians in front of the internet cafs to collect the results of the CBSE results recently.
Some broadband users are repeatedly facing the problem of slow connectivity, especially on Saturdays and Sundays when the BSNL offices remain closed. Media persons, who mostly rely on the BSNLs broadband service, are also the worst sufferers as they fail to send news reports to their respective media houses in time. On the other hand, most private telecom companies are found to be providing regular broadband service to their subscribers.
Mayukh Goswami, secretary, Electronic Media Association of Darrang, has urged the General Manager, BSNL Tezpur Circle, who is responsible for the service to customers in Darrang district, to take quick and effective measures to ensure uninterrupted broadband service.
