Skill development of construction workers

GUWAHATI, June 8 - Labour Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Assam Building and Other Construction Workers� Welfare Board Tapan Chandra Sarma today said that proper skill development of the construction workers would facilitate their capacity building in a big way, besides leading to their economic uplift.

At a valedictory function of a skill development programme held at Mangaldai today, Sarma highlighted the benefits of such initiative to the registered workers in the booming construction sector.

The skill development programme under the Board commenced on April 11 and was implemented by Puberun Consortium of Companies. A total of 925 participants were imparted training as painter, carpenter and mason during the programme. The State Labour Welfare Department in association with the Board aims to train 10,000 beneficiaries for the construction sector.

A host of Government officials were present on the occasion along with Alok Sarkar of Puberun.
