GUWAHATI, Dec 8 - Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today jointly dedicated the Skill Development Institute which has been set up at Uttar Phulung, North Guwahati to the nation.
The Skill Development Institute, Guwahati has been set up by Oil India Limited in line with similar SDIs established by other major oil and gas sector PSUs with an aim to cater to the skill needs of the youths of north-eastern region in order to enhance their employability in hydrocarbon as well as other sectors. Initially, Industrial Electrician (Oil & Gas) and Industrial Welder (Oil & Gas) courses have been adopted in the institute, which are listed in National Qualification Registrar under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and are National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) compliance courses.
The institute which has been constructed with a cost of Rs 3 crore
Dharmendra Pradhan informed that a museum reflecting the heritage of oil sector would be set up in Guwahati soon.
The Union Minister also said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for North-East has been released outlining steps to leverage the hydrocarbon sector for development of the region. He also informed that the Ministry is planning to augment capacities of the refineries of the State from 7 MMT to 15 MMT.
Pradhan further said that preliminary survey is on to study the feasibility of laying pipeline from Paradweep of Orissa to Numaligarh Oil Refinery. The pipeline would be used initially to carry natural gas from Barauni to Numaligarh followed by Numaligarh to Duliajan and later will be extended up to Agartala. An estimated cost of Rs 7000 crore would be incurred for this project, he said.
Pradhan also said that the government is considering a proposal to set up a Skill University in Assam.
Sarbananda Sonowal called upon the oil companies to play an important role in drawing foreign companies for investment in the State and for their participation during the Global Business Summit slated on February 3 and 4 next.
Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that steps are being taken up for construction of bridge over Brahmaputra connecting Kuruwa with Guwahati and AIIMS, which have already increased importance of North Guwahati and informed that a automobile manufacturing company would soon be set in the area.
Minister of Industry and Commerce and Skill Development Chandra Mohan Patowary said that Assam Government would enhance employability of 2 lakh youth of the State within 2018-19.
While CMD OIL Utpal Bora delivered the welcome speech, MPs Bijoya Chakraborty and Ramen Deka also spoke on the occasion.
