By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 30 - The ambitious North East Skill Centre (NESC) project, a joint collaboration of the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) and Institute of Technical Educational Services, Singapore (ITEES), will be launched in January.

The centre will offer a one-year certificate course to achieve the twin goal of generating employment and meet the demand of the industry for skilled manpower. Specialised and industry-driven training would be imparted in four sectors - beauty and wellness, retail services, hospitality food and beverage service and hospitality housekeeping.

The sectors were picked up after a need analysis conducted by a team of consultants from ITEES following an MoU between the Assam and Singapore governments in November, 2017, official sources said.

The NESC will have state-of-the-art infrastructure located on a sprawling campus in Guwahati with a fully equipped laboratory. Officials said the course curriculum has been designed in collaboration with ITEES in order to meet the prevalent international standards and industry norms.

The trainers were imparted training in Singapore. The difference between the ongoing skill training programme and NESC will be the collaboration of the latter with leading industrial partners to facilitate training in various ways such as guest lectures, industrial visits, internships in industries etc.

The training will nurture the candidates for all-round inclusive development to prepare them for the job market, they said. The Assam government is providing course fee subsidy up to 65 per cent of the per candidate cost.
