DIBRUGARH, Jan 9 - The Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) today launched a monthly magazine Sonowal Barta. The first issue of the magazine was formally released during a special function held at its office campus at Jibon Phukan Nagar here.
Eminent litterateur and writer Dr Nagen Saikia while releasing the first issue of the monthly expressed the hope that the magazine will act as a bridge between the Sonowal Kachari community and those at the helm of affairs at SKAC besides creating a pool of intellectuals, writers and thinkers. Chief Executive Member of SKAC Dipuranjan Markari, in his welcome address, said that the magazine was being launched with an objective to start an intellectual revolution.
The magazine will be published by the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council and will be edited by senior journalist Ratan Hazarika. It will be distributed particularly among the Sonowal Kachari population in over nine districts of Assam.
The Council also felicitated nine Sonowal Kachari folk artistes and senior priests during the function for their role in keeping alive the tradition, culture, music and religious practices of the community.
