SK Srivastava takes over as OIL CMD

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, May 1 Sunil Kumar Srivastava has taken over as Chairman and Managing Director (C&MD) of Oil India Limited (OIL) today. He is an upstream petroleum professional with an excellent blend of experience and expertise in exploration, drilling and production in oil and gas sector.

Srivastava joined OIL in 1977 at OILs field headquarter at Duliajan and has about 35 years of excellent track record. During this period, he steered various oil and gas projects of OIL besides heading international assignments. His experience in OIL include 15 years of service in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, where he occupied several positions in various capacities. This was stated in an OIL press release issued by Tridib Duvarah, Manager (PR & Coordination).

He was Head of Exploration in Duliajan, leading a team of geoscientists, was involved in multi-disciplinary workstation-based geo-scientific interpretation for identification of drillable prospects and development locations using 2D, 3D seismic and other oil/gas field data in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. He also held the position of Director (Operations), OIL.

Srivastava is responsible for several oil and gas discoveries and credited with setting up OILs state-of-the-art G&G Interpretation Centre in Duliajan. He conceptualised studies of Revitalisation of Old Oil Fields Nahorkatia & Moran to look for bypassed and un-drained oil with ultimate objective of maximising recovery and enhancing oil production. Now as C&MD, OIL, he has plans to revitalise old Oil Fields to improve declining production.

Further during this period, Srivastava was directly associated in development strategies of new discoveries, which enabled OIL to sustain crude oil production of over 3 MMTPA in the last decade despite major oil fields being in advanced state of depletion. He played a major role in formulating OILs short and long term exploration, development, drilling and production plans.

Apart from these achievements, particularly for Assam, he has actively guided OIL in the national and international bidding in several countries including Africa, Middle East, South East Asia and North American continents. He was the Chief Adviser (Exploration & Development) and Country Manager of OILs Libya operations.
