Six-MLA team inspects Dhubri border areas

DHUBRI, Oct 20 - On their second day of border visit, the team of six MLAs along with Additional Chief Secretary VS Vaskar and Additional DGP R Chandranathan took a trip to the reverie boundaries of the district with Bangladesh on Thursday.

MLAs Padma Hazarika, Tapan Gogoi, Mrinal Saikia, Promod Borthakur, Gurujoyti Das and Jogen Mohan along with Additional Chief Secretary and Additional DGP visited the border areas of Sialdah BPO, Gaspara BPO, Ghewmari BPO and Tistarpar BPO to take a first-hand account of the border areas and interacted with the local people and security officials to know their problems.

The team also visited Binnacharra area and other border areas on Wednesday, on the first day of their visit. According to sources, the purpose of the team of MLAs is to take stock of the situation in the border district. They would submit a report to the State government after assessing the issues relating to infiltration.

However, the delegation showed their dissatisfaction towards the status of the border areas. They are of the view that the borders in the area are insecure and need immediate attention. MLA Padma Hazarika said, �Border issue is of utmost priority to the State and if the boarders are sealed permanently, many correlated issues in the State will be resolved. We are trying our level best to seal and secure the borders with the neighbouring country by the end of 2017,� he added.
