Sivasagar to host major ranking TT tourney

GUWAHATI, Aug 24 - Under the auspices of the Assam Table Tennis Association (ATTA), the Sivasagar District Sports Association will organise the All Assam Major Ranking Table Tennis Championships from August 30 to September 2 at the Sivasagar Indoor Stadium.

This will be the ninth ranking championship this year after Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Duliajan, Don Bosco School, Guwahati, Nagen Hazarika and RG Baruah ranking championships.

Around 350 players from all the affiliated districts � Guwahati, Nagaon, Tezpur, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Nazira, Namrup, Dibrugarh, North Lakhimpur, Silchar and Duliajan along with institutions like Oil India Limited, NF Railway are expected to take part in the tournament.

Altogether 10 individual events will be held from cadet level to senior level for both men and women categories. Award for most promising player in both the boys and girls categories will be given based on the performance in all the championships.

For smooth conduct of the championship, ATTA has nominated Biman Bhagawati of Sivasagar as chief referee besides Chandan Goswami of Nagaon, Gobinda Upadhaya of Guwahati and Subhajit Singha of Golaghat as referees. Nayan Jyoti Sarma, treasurer, ATTA, of Jorhat will be the official observer for the championships.
