GUWAHATI, Oct 19 - Sivasagar men and Dhansiri women emerged champions in the 44th Assam State Inter District Weightlifting Championship (Junior and Senior) which came to an end at the Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium here last evening.
The championship was organised by the Assam Weightlifting Association and was inaugurated by Bhabajyoti Goswami, vice president of the Indian Weightlifting Federation. The Souvenir was released by Pabitra Ram Khaund, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare.
Altogether 250 weightlifters participated from all over the State in the three-day meet where competitions were held in the weight categories of (Men) 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg and above 105kg. (Women) 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg and above 75kg.
Nitu Tamuli of Sivasagar won the best lifter title in the junior men category while Saurav Gogoi also of Sivasagar occupied the top spot in the men section. In the women section, Bornali Bora of Sivasagar and Pompi Saikia of Dhansiri emerged as best lifters in junior women and women categories respectively.
