Sivasagar DC reviews child protection measures

JORHAT, Aug 25 - The Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner PG Jha on Thursday chaired the monthly review meeting of district child protection group, district juvenile cell and district task force on child protection at the Deputy Commissioner�s office chamber.

A district administration source said that Assistant Commissioner Priyankujyoti Sharma, who is the district nodal officer of the task force, gave a presentation on the drives undertaken by the task force to rescue children that were employed as child labour and about recovering abandoned children.

Jha asked the officials and staff involved in rescue of child labourers and in preventing child marriage, to carefully handle the situation by following the relevant rules and procedures properly, the source stated.

The Deputy Commissioner, while responding to a request by an in-charge of a child shelter home, directed the Health department to conduct health check-ups of the children lodged in the shelter homes from the next month on a regular basis, the source said.

Jha also announced in the meeting that the district administration has taken the initiative for issuing Aadhaar cards and carry out NRC updation of the children staying in the shelter homes.

Sivasagar UNICEF officer Sandhani Gogoi gave a presentation about caution to be undertaken by the law enforcement agencies during drives carried out to rescue child labour.

The source further said that Sivasagar Additional Deputy Commissioner Bidit Das, District Child Protection Officer Dibya Deori and Chairperson of Sivasagar Sishu Suraksha Samity Dipali Swargiary were among those who attended the meeting.
