Sivasagar DC bade farewell

SIVASAGAR, March 2 - Narayan Melang Konwar, the outgoing Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar was offered a hearty farewell today by the citizens here at a meeting held at Sivasagar Yuva Dal auditorium. Konwar was felicitated by over 65 social organisations and educational institutions .

Konwar in his speech said that he was happy to have served in Sivasagar as he had a fascination for its historic importance since childhood.During his tenure as the Deputy Commissioner, he had been able to inspire the Government machinery to collect maximum revenue in several departments. He was also happy to learn that during the last one-and-a-half years, ONGC had been able to increase 3 percent more crude and 15 percent more gas production mainly due to the improved law and order situation.

Konwar said that Sivasagar is lagging behind in the maternal health sector and that the tea garden community is the worst sufferer, and the main reason behind was the tea garden womens� lack of education.

In rural development, Sivasagar is way ahead of other districts due to improved revenue earning and e-administration. Over 500 landless people were given land pattas, thereby qualifying them for Government aid.

Konwar added that he has nothing to lose in life, as also nothing to gain materially. He has a strong commitment to devote his energy in improving the life of the marginal section from which he himself comes from.

Sarat Hazarika compered the function which was attended among others by Amal Dutta, Abhijit Baruah, DDC, Sivasagar, Lakhikanta Mahanta, Dr Prakash Kotoky and Ganga Borgohain.
