JORHAT, Oct 28 - Sivasagar town and many other important urban localities and highways witnessed blockades by hundreds of agitating school teachers today as they announced bandh-call for 12 hours in the district from 6 am to 6 pm.
More than 1,500 school teachers were deprived of their salary for the last 45 months. The teachers came out to the roads today in a protest against their deprivation. According to them neither the State Government took proper initiative to release their due salary nor paid any heed to their protest.
Along with the agitating teachers representatives of various organisations alleged that a male officer of district administration dragged one of the lady teachers from the road instead of ordering women police to take her from the spot.
In order to clear the blockades on roads police detained several teachers in the town.
