Siu-ka-pha Divas observed in Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, Dec 4 - Along with the rest of the State, the Asom Divas in remembrance of the first Ahom king Chaolung Siu-ka-pha was observed in Dhemaji on Wednesday in its Hatigarh Lachit Khelpathar under the aegis of the Kendriya Siu-ka-pha Divas Udjapan Samiti in cooperation with local people with much enthusiasm.

The open meeting held on this occasion, was presided over by Dilip Buragohain, retired principal of Gargaon College and it was inaugurated by reception committee president, Ratneswar Phukan.

Addressing the meeting, Dhemaji MLA Dr. Ranoj Pegu recalled the first king of Ahom Kingdom and his contribution in building a harmonious society in a land of myriad cultures, languages customs and traditions with his great policy of assimilation. Stressing importance in developing Habung, the second capital of Ahom Kingdom , he said that the State government is planning to set up an ethnicTai Ahom model village at Habung.

Padma Hazarika, MLA, Sotia LAC attended the open meeting as distinguished guest. In his speech, Hazarika termed Siu-ka-pha as the great architect of Bor Asom and called upon all to keep alive his principles an ideology through hard work and agriculture movement.

Earlier, president of the celebration committee, Dilip Buragohain hoisted the flag in the morning while Jayanta Dihingia, executive president of the celebration committee performed maidam tarpan and Bijay Rajkonwar, chief secretary of the Kendriya Udjapan Samiti garlanded the portrait of Siu-ka-pha. Later Ban-phi puja was performed by 1001 molung (Ahom priests) in the celebration ground.

A colourful cultural procession with participation of several ethnic cultural groups were taken out on the occasion .
