Situation improving: Kokrajhar DC

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 12 � The district administration held a meeting with the ABSU and ABMSU representatives at the DC�s conference hall on Saturday with the Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Jayant Narlikar, in the chair. The meeting was attended by Promod Boro, president, ABSU, Harunakanta Brahma, GS KDC, ABSU, Md. Mayunuddin Haque, advisor, ABMSU, Sunil Kumar, SP, Kokrajhar and Vinod Seshan ADC, Gossaigaon.

Initiating the discussion, the DC said that the situation is improving in the district. There are 90,000 inmates in relief camps of whom 20,000 are from the minority community in Kokrajhar district. The district administration has taken family photographs in all the relief camps for easy identification of camp inmates and no outsider would be allowed to settle in the relief camps. He also said that the amount released by the State Government for the purpose of rehabilitation has been received by district administration and it will be distributed once the inmates return to their respective villages.

Sunil Kumar, SP, Kokrajhar, informed that sufficient CPMF and Army personnel have been deployed in all the vulnerable areas. He also informed that the CBI has taken up the cases for probe.

ABMSU advisor Md. Moynuddin Haque requested the administration to provide adequate security and set up makeshift camps for construction of their houses. He also assured to work for peace and tranquility.

ABSU president Promod Boro said that all the Bodo organisations want permanent solution in the BTC area. The proper scrutiny at the time of rehabilitation is the only way of solution. He stressed on the necessity of confidence-building measures among the people of both communities before the rehabilitation of camp inmates, otherwise, a minor incident could again create trouble.

The DC appealed to all the organisations to change their rigid mindset if any and work for greater interest of common people and bringing back peace and normalcy through discussions with each other. He also requested the ABSU and ABMSU to hold discussions with other organisations irrespective of caste, creed and community for restoring peace and normalcy. He also assured to conduct proper check of nationality during the rehabilitation.
