MANGALDAI, April 8 � The properties of MLAs of all the four constituencies of Darrang who are also contesting in the Assembly polls have increased substantially during their last tenure of five years. Moreover some of them have even overlooked the declaration made before the last Assembly election.
Maheswar Boro, MLA Kalaigaon and BPF candidate for the constituency at present holds properties with current value of more than Rs 16 lakh as shown in the affidavit before the Election Commission. It includes both immovable and movable propecties and also in the name of his spouse and dependent children. In comparison to 2006, the declaration shows an increase of personal property upto 10 times. MLA Boro, who owns a Tata Safary, worth more than Rs 8 lakh owns a motor cycle and cash of Rs 65,000 only while filing nomination five years back. He was also chargesheeted against the GR Case (no.1956/90) in the court of the CJM Mangaldai as mentioned in the 2006 affidavit but the matter seemed to have been overlooked in the recent affidavit.
MLA of Sipajhar constituency and INC candidate Binanda Kumar Saikia also became richer by about Rs 60 lakh within a interval of five years as declared in the affidavit submitted with nomination. The INC candidate who owned movable property with a value of about Rs 1.41 lakh is presently richer by about Rs 28 lakh. Moreover he owns commercial land of 10 kathas in Guwahati city of which the market value is Rs25 lakh as shown in the affidavit. His spouse, who is a medical practitioner by profession, owns movable property worth Rs 16 lakh. Five years back, she had cash of Rs 5000 in hand, Rs 30,000 in bank, gold worth Rs 13,500, LICs with sum assured of Rs 5.45 lakh and a Tata Sumo vehicle with a value of Rs 5 lakh.
Meanwhile, the recent affidavit shows car loans of Rs 6.66 lakh against Binanda Saikia and also a housing loan of about Rs 16 lakh for his spouse but there was no mention of house or residential building in the property affidavit of the couple. MLA, Mangaldai and AGP candidate for the constituency Hiren Kr Das has also become rich with property worth around Rs 73 lakh which is almost five times higher in comparison to the property owned by him in 2006. The opposition MLA presently holds movable assets worth Rs 18.73 lakh while his wife, a teacher by profession, is rich with about Rs 7 lakh. The value of immovable properties owned by the AGP MLA in Mangaldai and Guwahati has been fixed at around Rs 47 lakh in the affidavit.In the affidavit of 2006, the value of movable properties shown by him was about Rs 7 lakh whereas the value of immovable properties was not fixed.
MLA, Dalgaon LAC and INC candidate for the constituency Ilias Ali is not not far behind as far as the value of of properties is concerned like his other counterparts. Significantly, the MLA does not own any residential building but his spouse whose yearly income is nil owns immovable asset worth Rs 11.30 lakh. She also owns movable properties of about Rs 2.71 lakh.The total value of movable and immovable properties shown against MLA Ali is Rs 9.95 lakh. The financial assistance taken to raise the property has been shown as only Rs 79,000. Five years back, he owns cash of Rs 16000 and a Yamaha motorcycle while his wife was rich with movable assets worth Rs 1.12 lakh.The affidadavit of 2006 though showed a non agricultural land of 2 katha 10 lessas in Kharupetia town in the name of Ilias Ali, this time the figure has been missing.
