DIBRUGARH, Feb 17 � Arunachal Pradesh Governor, Gen (Retd) JJ Singh made an appeal to the people of the State to come forward in protecting their traditions and rich cultural heritage.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi � the dance festival of the Singphos � which formally got under way at the Manou Ground complex at Bordumsa in Changlang district on Sunday, the Governor stated that Arunachal is bestowed with many things like natural and scenic beauty, rich forest resources and rich cultural heritage and called for protection of the tribal culture by the people of the State.
Singh also called upon the younger generation to shun the practice of taking drugs and join hands for a prosperous nation building. �I call upon the youths of the State not to concentrate on bad things, do something which is creative�, the Governor said. He also released a souvenir published on the occasion.
The Governor joined the traditional groups and young boys and girls in their traditional dance. The Governor was accompanied by his wife Anupama Singh, PHE and Water Supply Minister Chowna Mein and other dignitaries.
Earlier, local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary of Art and Culture, Handloom and Handicraft, who was also the president of the Organising Committee CC Singpho urged upon all to come forward in preservation of traditional Singpho culture. The four day festival conclude on Tuesday. Cultural troupes representing various tribes of the State in their traditional attires took part in the traditional dance.
