Simaluguri boys lift Pilik Choudhury Trophy

GUWAHATI, July 20 � Simaluguri High School, Sivasagar emerged champions in the Pilik Choudhury Memorial Inter District Footbal Championship and have qualified to represent Assam in Subroto Cup�s U-14 category.

The Subroto Cup will be held in New Delhi in September next.

In the final played at the Sarusajai Sports Complex here today, Simaluguri outplayed Sacred Heart High School, Udalguri, 4-0.

Santosh Singh drew first blood in the very second minute of the match while the same player made it 2-0 in the 34th minute. Boby Martin Lahan took the scoreline to 3-0 in the 39th minute and finally Raj Pratim Gogoi completed the rout in the 58th minute.

The Udalguri boys hardly could recover from the shock at the start of the match and virtually gave in at the later stage.

The championship was organised by Directorate of Sports. But the negative side of the championship was over 70 players from different schools were found over aged and were barred from plaing in the meet.

In the closing function, VS Bhaskar, Principal Secretary of Sports Department was the chief guest. Former international footballer Gilbertson Sangma along with Director of Sports Gaurav Bothra, Joint Director Anjan Sarma, Deputy Director Gautam Das, Pradip Hazarika State athletic body secretary Pradip Nunisa, GSA general secretary Ibocha Singh were present in the closing function.
