Silver jubilee of Silpi Sahajya Nidhi on Sept 26

GUWAHATI, Sept 23 - Silpi Sahajya Nidhi: Asom � an organisation dedicated to the welfare of artistes and technicians of the State and which has been offering financial assistance to distressed artistes and technicians since 1994, will be celebrating its silver jubilee at the Kanaklal Baruah auditorium at the Assam State Museum on September 26.

The function that will begin at 2 pm will be attended by Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley, Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia and Numaligarh Refinery Limited Managing Director SK Baruah, besides many dignitaries from the cultural sphere of the State.

A 50-member silver jubilee committee with Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief patron and Naba Kumar Doley as patron has been set up for the purpose.

Silpi Sahajya Nidhi was formed in 1993 with a corpus fund of Rs 5 lakh collected from the Kalyanji Anandji Musical Nite held in Guwahati under the initiative of Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Natya Prabhakar Satya Prasad Baruah and Natya Samrat Girish Choudhury. Later, the organisation collected funds through various cultural programmes and has so far utilised a total of Rs 27 lakh, which has benefited around 300 artistes and technicians.
