By Correspondent

DHEMAJI, June 30 Swargadeo Sukapha founded the Ahom kingdoms capital at Habung on the north bank of the Brahmaputra in 1240 AD and after spending four years there, he left Habung because of frequent floods and went back to Sivasagar on the south bank for the permanent capital of the Ahom kingdom.

The abandoned Ahom capital at Habung, which remained full of forests for several decades in Dhemaji, was recognised as the second capital of Sukaphas kingdom by Nagen Hazarika, the then ADC, Dhemaji, with the help of local historians in 1990.
