Silver jubilee celebrations of Learners� High School ends

DOOMDOOMA, April 12 - The Learners� High School, an English medium private school, which was set up in 1992 at Shanti Nagar, Rupai Siding, near here celebrated its silver jubilee with two-day programmes on April 10 and 11.

The first day�s programme started with the hoisting of the school flag. It was hoisted by the principal of the school, Varghese Panjikaran, while silver jubilee flag was hoisted by the president of the celebration committee Arjun Baruah.

The smriti tarpan programme was initiated by the working president of the celebration committee Jhikananda Borgohain. Former principal of Doomdooma College, Dr Abdul Qudir, was also present on the occasion. Later in the day, an alumni meet was held which was followed by a cultural function.

On the concluding day, a colourful cultural procession was taken out in Rupai Siding area in the morning which was inaugurated by local MLA Durga Bhumij. In the procession, the students of the school displayed the rich culture of various ethnic tribes of the State.

In the afternoon, an open session was held which was addressed by former chairman of SEBA Dhanadev Mahanta as chief guest. The session was also addressed by former president of ACTA Rana Changmai; Inspector of Schools, Tinsukia District Circle Abdul Jelil; working president of Tinsukia District Higher Secondary Examination Committee Mrigen Saikia; and the headmaster of Doomdooma Bangiya Vidyalaya Prabin Mazumder as guests of honour.

Earlier, the president of the celebration committee, Arjun Baruah, delivered the welcome address. The dais was also shared by Linuma Gogoi, coordinator, RMSA, Tinsukia district; Seema Choudhury, Principal of Hoonlal HS School, Doomdooma; and Fr Igness Hans, headmaster of Donbosco School. Several academicians, distinguished persons along with the past and present pupils of the school and the guardians attended the meeting.

The cultural function held in the evening was inaugurated by former secretary of Tinsukia District Sahitya Sabha, Sarat Chandra Chiringphukan.
