SIVASAGAR, Aug 23 - The Sivasagar chapter of Silpi Samaj Asom paid glowing tributes to Geeti-Kobi Parvati Prasad Baruva recently in a solemn function.

Lighting the ceremonial lamp and paying tributes to the legendary singer, composer, lyricist and a stalwart of Assamese culture of the modern era, Manoj Borthakur, adviser of Silpi Samaj said that Parvati Prasad Baruva is a much-neglected cultural messiah in comparison to the other two, namely Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla.

The place where the imposing structure of Sivasagar Natya Mandir stands today belonged to the Parvati Prasad Baruvas family and the Natya Samaj Sivasagar did not have time to remember the legend, he added.

Dr Utpaljyoti Mahanta, Associate Professor of Sibsagar College, said that we need to do a lot more research work to rediscover the genius in the artist-lyricist. Jiten Kakoti, noted artist, Jayanta Dutta, guitarist, Rajendre Joshi, Dipok Bhagawati, Aminur Alam, Amrit Sarmah and Bijoy Rovi Kashyap, president and secretary respectively of Silpi Samaj also addressed the gathering.
