Silpi Sainik Brajanath Sarma Award presented to Rina Bora

BARPETA, Sept 12 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented the Silpi Sainik Brajanath Sarma Award to veteran stage and celluloid actress Rina Bora at Sarbhog in Barpeta district today.

Addressing a meeting held on the occasion, Sonowal laid emphasis on strengthening the economy of the State. Reiterating the slogan �Local, Vocal and Global�, Sonowal stated that the government has laid maximum emphasis on improvement of agricultural economy of the State so that local need can be met by local production. He informed that apart from fulfilling the local needs, the government is targeting the South East Asian markets by increasing the agro-based production of the State. He also claimed that the restrictions on export and import related to agriculture products will be lifted and cargo flights will soon carry the products outside the State.

Referring to the COVID-19 infection, the Chief Minister said that the pandemic has taken a serious turn in the state and the government is prepared to face all challenges. Sonowal hoped that the mobile theatre industry, which is one of the worst-hit sectors in the State will get a new lease of life as soon as the pandemic is over.

Earlier, Sonowal paid floral tributes to the revolutionary artiste and freedom fighter Brajanath Sarma. A building after the name of the artiste was also inaugurated today. Responding to the honour, Rina Bora, whose performance had rocked the stage and screen once, said that she is elated to receive such an award instituted in the name of the doyen of acting in the State.

Minister of State for Cultural Affairs and Rural Development Naba Doley, president of the State Unit of BJP and MLA, Sarbhog Ranjit Kumar Dass and Media Advisor to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami also attended the function.
