GUWAHATI, March 18 - Silchar cruised into the final of the CM�s Cup Football Tournament (U-19 boys) defeating Tezpur by an overall aggregate of 10-9 goals in the double leg semifinal.
After trailing 2-3 in the first leg on March 16, the Silchar boys prevailed over their Tezpur counterparts 1-0 in the second leg today at the Nehru Stadium here, as the aggregate went on to remain at 3-3.
In the penalty shootout, Silchar netted seven against Tezpur�s six in sudden death.
It was a well contested encounter as both the teams showed ample potentiality. The players were good in individual skills and team works.
After a barren first session Hamboy Linidoh fired the match winning goal in the 79th minute.
Ajosh Dalong of the winning team received the man-of-the-match award.
Uncertainty over final: The organisers of the championship, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, could not announce the date of the final between Silchar and Gossaigaon. According to sources, due to implementation of the code of conduct for the assembly elections, the final of the championship can�t be organised and the date will be finalised after formation of the new government.
The meet was organised among 56 sub divisions of the State in various places. The semifinals were organised here in a double leg format. The winners and losers of the semifinals were given cash awards of Rs 48,000 and Rs 32,000 respectively while the best players of the semifinal matches were awarded Rs 3,000 each.
It has appeared that a reasonable amount has been spent for hosting 1063 matches till the semifinals of the tournament with a view to spot new talents, but uncertainty still prevails over the final which may not also be held.
