SILCHAR, March 19 - Protesting strongly against the abhorrent incident of a 13-year-old minor girl, who was brutally raped and later murdered in South Hailakandi, women in Silchar took to the streets in Silchar on Sunday.
Women under the banner of Durga Bahini echoed demands of according death penalty to Jasimuddin Barbhuiya, who had committed the heinous crime along with his accomplice.
�We strongly demand death penalty to Jasimuddin and the sentence should be processed much like the fast-track decisions done in the bigger cities,� the protesters maintained.
On the other hand, people in Silchar under the banner of United Club matched steps in a candle rally on Sunday evening expressing their protest against the shocking incident.
Snatchers nabbed: As many as 12 girl snatchers were nabbed by fair revellers and local people at the ongoing Gandhi Mela in Silchar on Sunday.
According to locals, the snatchers could be a part of a larger network of thieves who use them as resources in the fair. Later, snatchers were handed over to police.
