Silchar potential venue for APL: ACA secretary

SILCHAR, Sept 13 - Assam Cricket Association (ACA) secretary Devajit Saikia on Friday said that of the six teams to play in the Assam Premier League in 2020, one team will be from Barak Valley and Silchar is very much in the scheme of things as a potential venue for the competition.

Addressing the media at the conference hall of Satindra Mohan Dev stadium here, Saikia said, �The ACA is focusing on creating more matches and tournaments for the players of the State team. We have the much awaited Assam Premier League coming up early next year and of the six teams to take part in the APL, one team would be from Barak Valley. Silchar is in our radar as a potential venue for the competition. However, there are certain areas including telecast rights to be looked into much like the IPL.�

He was quick to say that the ACA is investing on training each player of the team irrespective of which zone they are coming from and maintained that Pritam Das � the pacer from Silchar has great prospect and ACA shall provide all assistance for him to flourish. Saikia along with ACA treasurer Tridib Kowar are here to take part in the opening ceremony of the two-day Umpire�s seminar organised by Silchar Veteran Cricketer�s Club. He praised the veteran crickets club for its commendable contribution in improving the sport. The seminar was inaugurated by Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul.

During the interaction, the ACA secretary responded to queries on Lodha Commission�s report and also said that there are bright prospects of hosting IPL matches in the coming days at Guwahati.
