SILCHAR, Aug 18 - Renowned physician and philanthropist of Silchar Dr Rahul Gupta passed away at the Institute of Neurosciences in Kolkata around 11.35 am Tuesday. He was 73.
Dr Gupta was flown to Kolkata in an extremely critical state after he suffered a cerebral haemorrhage here.
He is survived by his wife Nandita, son Rudra, and daughter-in-law Dr Tanusree Gupta, who too is a physician. His mortal remains were brought to Silchar on Wednesday for the last rites which witnessed a large gathering.
As soon as the news of his demise reached, a pall of gloom descended over Silchar.
Dr Gupta had established Ramanuj Gupta Junior College and Ramanuj Vidya Mandir in 1998 and 2001 respectively as charitable educational institutes in Silchar in the memory of his elder son Ramanuj Gupta who passed away in 1997.
