GUWAHATI, April 19 Silchar made it to the semifinal stage of the Elite Group Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament with a first innings lead against Jorhat as the three-day match at the Barsapara stadium ended in a draw.

Silchar yesterday took a massive 197-run first innings lead as after declaring at 277 for 8, they skittled out Jorhat for a paltry 80. Silchar, instead of forcing the opponent to follow on, continued to bat in the second innings and at the close of the match they were 223 for 8.

Yesterday Silchar were 47 for no loss. Today, opener Kaushik Giri scored 95 off 161 balls. He and his opening partner Yatin Malik (58) added 80 runs for the opening wicket partnership while Giri added another 77 runs for the third wicket partnership with Samik Das (42). But the other Silchar batsmen miserably failed to hit form.

Brief scores: Silchar 1st innings 277. Jorhat 1st innings 80. Silchar 2nd innings 223/8 (Yatin Malik 58, Kaushik Giri 95, Samik Das 42, Dayal Krishna Dutta 4/89, Istiyak Ali 3/41).
