SILCHAR, Jan 18 - Amidst growing doubts over the start of Kanchenjunga train from Silchar to Kolkata to accommodate the overcrowding of passengers, the North East Frontier Railway has decided to run two special trains on January 20 and 21 in addition to the solitary daily Silchar-Guwahati passenger train.

BK Mishra, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager from Lumding today said that the train number 05692 will leave Silchar on January 20 at 11 am and will reach Guwahati at 10:45 pm. Another train 05694 will leave for Guwahati on January 21 at 11 am and will reach its destination at 10:45 pm. Both the trains will have 18 coaches each, Mishra said. This will only be a one-way journey on both the days and the passengers can avail tickets from Monday evening, he said.

Asked about the fate of Kanchenjunga train, Mishra said that the train is an extension to Silchar and will start after the railways complete the necessary preparations. He informed that presently the train from Silchar to Guwahati earns average revenue of Rs 2.5 lakh daily. He said that an order has been issued regarding availability of seats in the chair car compartment. The system will accommodate 90 seats but additional 18 seats can be filled manually by the Train Ticket Examiner after the preparation of charts, Mishra added.

Meanwhile, Biplab Das, the station superintendent at Silchar Railway Station informed that two special trains with 20 coaches each carrying more than 6000 BJP leaders, workers and supporters from Barak Valley have left Silchar for Guwahati on Monday evening. The BJP contingent will attend the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at Guwahati. These two special trains are also the first night trains from Silchar, Das said.
