Silchar, Guwahati athletes shine in State Games

SILCHAR, Jan 10 - Hosts Silchar had a satisfying Sunday in the Athletics discipline on the fourth day of the 3rd State Games with Ikbal Hussain clinching gold in the men�s 10,000 metres sprint as he completed the target in 32.2 minutes leaving behind Barpeta�s Saiful Ali with a timing of 32.3 minutes. Another athlete from Silchar, Lalchand Ali got bronze as he finished in 33.1 minute. In the women�s 10,000 metres sprint, local girl Anita took gold for finishing in 42.5 minutes.

Athlete Kamalesh Singh bagged gold in the men�s discus throw event with a distance of 35.60 metres. He also won gold in the men�s shot put event.

On the other hand, it was a all Guwahati show in the gymnastics discipline. Samudra Das and Dipanshu Borgohain were the gold and silver winners respectively in the men�s parallel bar event. Atish Kumar Shah and Dipangshu Borgohain picked up silver and bronze in the men�s pommel horse segment. Samudra won gold in the men�s floor exercise.

Minakshi Barman brought cheers for Guwahati winning gold in the women�s beam and floor exercise events. Ipsita Deka also chipped in with bronze in the floor exercise. Guwahati athletes dominated the men�s all round individual championship category, winning all three medals while the women athletes bagged the silver and bronze in this category.
