Silapathar violence accused Binoy Biswas arrested

GUWAHATI/SILAPATHAR, March 13 - Acting on a tip-off, police today arrested Binoy Biswas (55), one of the main accused in the Silapathar incident, even as the district administration today relaxed the curfew for four hours.

Biswas, national organising secretary of Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samannay Samity (NIBBUS), was arrested in connection with the Silapathar Police Station case number 67/2017 under Section 147/148/149/448/325/307/427 and 153 (A) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police also arrested Sarbeswar Das for providing shelter to Biswas. Dhemaji police has so far arrested 43 persons in connection with the Silapathar incident.

Police sources informed that Biswas had been very active in a number of States including Odisha and West Bengal, allegedly making provocative comments, especially on the issue of Hindu migrants.

�Biswas is being questioned by the investigators on his role and other relevant aspects related to the Silapathar incident,� sources said.

Meanwhile, curfew was relaxed for four hours from 11 am, following which people gathered in good numbers in market places and also celebrated Holi. As no fresh incident was reported, curfew was relaxed for the first time yesterday for a couple of hours.
