Silapathar college signs MoU with RFRI, Jorhat

DHEMAJI, Oct 2 - Silapathar Science College, a premier institution of science education in Dhemaji district, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central government-run Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI), Jorhat for research partnership and collaboration.

Stating the purpose behind the MoU, Silapathar Science College Principal Dr Ranjeet Saikia said that their effort was to exchange innovative ideas on research projects and promote scientific attitude among the college students.

As per the MoU, both the institutions will carry out activities such as seminar and workshop on forest and environmental issues.

It was noted in the MoU that both the parties would jointly conduct research and extension activities pertaining to forest and ecosystem issues. They also agreed to submit proposals to national and international agencies for funding of the research and documentation projects.

RFRI Director Dr RSC Joyraj and Scientist and Group Coordinator of Research Dr Rajeev Kr Borah represented SFRI, while Principal Dr Ranjeet Saikia and Assistant Professor Dr Jitu Gogoi represented Silapathar Science College during signing of the MoU, which was done at Jorhat recently.

Established in 1996, Silapathar Science College has developed a botanical garden with an orchid research and conservation unit besides taking up a project of aromatic plantation. It also set up a rice bank in the college premise and has been conducting activities for conservation of the indigenous rice species.
