GANGTOK, April 17 - Amid the ongoing battle against the novel coronavirus outbreak across the country, a 22-year-old youth, Bissu Hang Limboo, has developed a device that can be effectively used to disinfect vehicles. Limboo hails from Sumbok, Bermiok Berthang, under the Gyalshing Bermiok constituency of West Sikkim.
The demonstration of the device was witnessed by the Minister of Land Revenue and Disaster Management KN Lepcha, Minister of Energy and Power MN Sherpa, Minister of Public Health Engineering Bhim Hang Limboo, MP Indra Hang Subba, MLA Namcheybong Em Prasad Sharma, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Jacob Khaling, Secretary of Land Revenue and Disaster Management PN Sherpa, Additional Director General of Police Akshay Sachdeva, Director of SSDMA GC Khanal, designated officers from the Food Safety and Standard Cell and the Sanitation Cell of the State Health and Family Welfare Department, and media persons.
While presenting a demonstration of the device at the residential premises of minister and MLA of Gyalshing Bermiok constituency here on Thursday, Limboo said that the device is at its experimental stage and, if approved by the State Government, it can be installed at the two main check-posts of Melli and Rangpo for disinfecting vehicles in an effort to maintain the zero COVID-19 status of the State.
The cost-effective vehicle disinfecting device will be powered by electricity with minimum requirement of manpower. It will be a time-saving device to facilitate sanitization at the check-posts, he added.
Limboo thanked minister Lok Nath Sharma for supporting the project and providing the required resources in assembling the device.
Meanwhile, lauding Limboo�s innovation, minister Kunga Nima said that the Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, in consultation with the State Government and other line departments, would promote the project after evaluating its effectiveness. He assured that the State Government would extend full support in providing a structured set-up for modification of the device.
Minister Lok Nath Sharma highlighted the utility value of the device in disinfecting vehicles as an essential safety measure against spread of COVID-19. He threw light on the experimental aspects and suggested incorporation of a multiple-nozzle spray to enhance its effectiveness.
Additional Director General of Police Akshay Sachdeva, praised Limboo�s innovative contribution and said that once the project is approved of by the State Government, the Sikkim Police, in coordination with the Health Department, would set up the device at the two main check-posts of Melli and Rangpo.
The vehicle disinfecting device is mainly designed with a medicine tank connected with a rubber-made socket pipe and induction motor which rotates a fan to create pressure for dispersion of liquid into a spray.
