Sikkim to unveil film policy

GANGTOK, Feb 23 - The Sikkim government will release its film policy during the Global Cinema Festival to be held here from February 28 to March 1.

A coordination meeting to discuss the draft of the film policy was organised by the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department at the Conference Hall of Tashiling Secretariat today. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary SC Gupta.

The meeting deliberated on the draft policy and took feedback and suggestions from the Chief Secretary as well as the related departments. The aim of the policy is to promote Sikkim as a leading destination for shooting and production of feature and non-feature films.

IPR Secretary Namrata Thapa spoke about the objectives and salient features of the policy, including setting up of a Film Development Council and a Film Facilitation Office.

Development of necessary infrastructure, setting up of miniplexes, film and television institutes are some of the other highlights of the policy.
