By Correspondent

GANGTOK, July 20 - Due to spike in COVID-19 cases across Sikkim and particularly in East district where state capital Gangtok is situated, the government has decided to enforce lockdown for a week starting July 21.

With Rongli and Pakyong subdivisions in East district on lockdown mode since the past many days due to outbreak of the virus, the entire state has been on alert following detection of cases in capital Gangtok, including a government employee.

Two primary contacts of the woman have also tested positive in Rangpo, a border town in the district along with a policeman in Singtam Bazar near Rangpo.

This has led reports emerging from neighbouring South district and many villages across Sikkim to go on a self lockdown mode with locals barring entry of other people.

In Rapid Antigen Test report of East Sikkim, 21 positive cases were detected yesterday, besides 7 from Rongli. 1 positive case was that of a primary contact and 6 were secondary contact of positive cases. All have been kept at Chujachen centre. Further, 14 positive cases were also detected at Rangpo. Sikkim has 193 active cases with overall 283 cases so far.
